The purpose of the project is to create a practical, ecologically sustainable and commercially viable solution to compost and clean contaminated material from fiber banks and thereby obtain a non-toxic material that can be used as a soil conditioner.
The project will provide technical knowledge that can respond to an urgent need for cleaner seas and coasts in Sweden, while providing a new way to reduce the recently discovered source of greenhouse gas emissions that fiber banks constitute. The project will be carried out in two stages (laboratory and pilot scale) and last for three years.
