The project is for the provision of a prototype and mid-volume production facility for battery modules, systems and full battery packs, primarily for the Automotive sector but also supporting cross sector projects. The facility will be established for complete pack assembly, including front and end of line testing to ensure repeatable quality products.
The facility will include automation to allow for a cost effective UK manufacturing facility and will be designed in a cell type arrangement that allows for easy scale up by the addition of extra manufacturing cells. The facility will be flexible to ensure the ability to run different types of battery.
The facility would support RML Groups own battery product manufacturing as well as manufacturing for 3rd parties, RML would also make the facility available to education allowing access to schools and colleges for experiences and universities to assist moving concepts along the level of TRL & MRL towards becoming production items. A facility of this type provides a critical
stepping stone for battery manufacture in the UK towards a potential Giga factory of the future and also fits into the supply chain for UK and foreign battery supply, especially at the critical stages of battery development. The facility would rely heavily on UK supply chain for both the initial capital equipment but also for
the resources needed in battery manufacturing, including Cells, module materials, battery management systems and housing, this would also lead to the creation of a number of new employment opportunities. The feasibility study will aim to provide a fully justified business plan for such a facility, a building
and outlined plan for the facility including factory layout and also prove the ability to automate the process effectively with reliable balanced throughout, the deliverable from this being a full report and to be in a position to move forward with the build of the facility if the financial commitment is
available.
