Grant Description

Companies with fleets are finding it hard to make the large-scale change to EVs. Charging infrastructure is one of the significant barriers that must be overcome for widespread adoption. We will:

1. Eliminate the huge cost and lead-times for grid upgrades and the expense and disruption of installing fixed charging infrastructure.

2. Provide access to short-term charging solutions that provide both low speed and rapid charging facilities for trialling EVs.

3. Deliver a low-cost solution for providing sufficient power for grid-constrained sites, without the time-consuming delays and huge costs associated with grid upgrades.

These barriers mean that fleets find it hard to even trial EVs to understand how best to use them within their business. The lack of both short-term and cost-effective long-term charging solutions has become a significant barrier to widespread EV adoption within a fleet environment.

Our vision is to accelerate the uptake of EVs in fleets by providing a module, flexible ultra-rapid charging hub for 6-48 vehicles, delivered and installed in 1-2 days, eliminating the dependency of grid constraints, and delivered at a lower cost than any existing solution. Additionally, we will investigate the opportunities to create:

1. A nationwide short-term hire scheme for charging hubs and power supplies for fleets wishing to carry out evaluations and trials for the rollout of electric vehicle fleets.

2. A nationwide pay-as-you-use long-term rental model demonstrating a significant reduction in running costs over refuelling conventional vehicles with diesel. **Innovations:**

1. A centralised charging system which shares charging resources effectively across a fleet of vehicles, providing the right amount of power to each vehicle (up to 350kW). 2. A 1MW ready charging solution for future charging requirements. 3. A novel above-ground cable trunking system that eliminates civil groundworks.

4. A rapid deployment system that allows a charging hub to be delivered and commissioned in 1-2 days, then redeployed quickly when necessary. 5. A short-term hire scheme for fleets to hire rapid charging hubs with power infrastructure for fleet trials.
