GNSS use is deeply embedded in our society, often used to obtain precise timing or positioning data for the operation of key elements of our critical national infrastructures. Our dependency on it cannot be under-estimated. The Last Mile Delivery of non-GNSS resilient time, frequency and synchronisation (TFS) project acknowledges the vulnerabilities of the system and explores the ways of how it can be made more resilient.
Resilience in time dissemination is essential to meet the key grand challenges set by government and accelerate its digital agenda to improve the citizens' experience, all of which will require flexible, scalable and resilient infrastructure to embrace cloud computing and cognitive technologies.
Spirent, Cranfield University and Hoptroff have partnered together to explore how to embed resilience and assurance of time dissemination to GNSS failures into the last mile of connectivity and ultimately enable the UK to export services around the world as demands in connected autonomy greatly increase post covid.
