Fraud is rife in fuel cards.
Fuel cards are a common form of payment for business. The market is worth €220bn across Europe (Allied Market Research). This segment is undergoing significant disruption due to electrification. This is a once in a life time opportunity to rebuild our refuelling infrastructure and associated payment services.
Fraud detection measures for petrol and diesel fuel cards (such as entering mileage/ vehicle registration) are not available in unattended Electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. €10-20bn/year is lost to fuel card fraud in Europe (Shell).
More work is needed on fraud detection and management for EV charging solutions. A lack of fraud management makes it riskier for businesses to commit to using public charging for their vehicles. Paua will remove fraud from EV charging by developing the technology to accurately match charging sessions to vehicles (ensuring the energy dispensed was transferred to that specific vehicle).
Paua is a market leading electric fuel card provider with over 20,000 EV charge point connections in the UK. The output from this project will enable Paua to stamp out fraud for customers of its electric vehicle charge card.
Increased confidence in public charging enables businesses to adopt electric vehicles, accelerating our transition to Net Zero and achieving cleaner air.
