Over the past 30-years, not only has the frequency of statistics-defying natural disasters increased, but also their severity and complexity. Now, on average, more than 20 million people are displaced annually by such events.
One of the key challenges with any disaster relief effort is the delivery of aid to affected regions. Typically, in their aftermath, infrastructure is damaged or blocked by debris. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) could play a significant role in providing relief to these areas at a fraction of the cost of helicopters, and with significantly lower risks. However, they are currently severely restricted in their range and payload carrying capabilities.
The objective of this project is to demonstrate a revolutionary Clean Hybrid Powertrain for Aviation (CHyPA) that will enable medium payload, long-range, UAVs that are emission free.
