The UK film industry spend was £1,72bn and £7,9bn across all screen industries (BFI2018). However, the industry (UK and global) lacks infrastructure and automation in its practices. Content distributors have growing libraries and increased reporting obligations to beneficiaries.

In a fragmented landscape of financing and multiple avenues of distribution, royalty calculations see huge complexities, and distributor teams require scalable and efficient processes.

Post Covid-19 brought harsher competition for content among distributors, frequent lawsuits from talent, and the push from regulators, consolidating the need for content distributors to build efficiencies.

FilmChain requires R&D to create a prototype for a SaaS royalties management platform to enable automation of royalties calculations and reports, and pilot it with a UK distributor.
