Grant Description

Sinclair Energy Partners Limited is developing an affordable and novel carbon utilisation technology to convert flue gases into Ethylene.

Carbon utilisation is an integral part of achieving Net Zero. This is specifically the case for industrial emitters which are not located close to a carbon sequestration basin. The carbon utilisation technology based on novel engineering biology pathway is of strategic relevance and provides an opportunity to convert carbon dioxide emissions into valuable and affordable fuels and products, such as Ethylene.

The technology offers a unique ability to decarbonise the industrial infrastructure in the UK and produce carbon neutral fuels for the chemicals sector. The production of Ethylene will be at parity with fossil fuels and price structure will be independent of the benchmark O&G prices. This will be an enabler in the ability to tame inflation and alleviate concerns on future energy price shocks to the economy.

Majority of the manufacturing and the supply chain will be located in the UK, which would boost GDP, lead to job creation as well as supply chain ssecurity.

Future applications of the technology are expected to open up opportunities such as the conversion of carbon dioxide into Acetylene and formaldehydes.

Ethylene is an important and widely used commodity chemical for several industries such as manufacturing, construction and textiles.

The cost competitiveness of this breakthrough technology will be amongst the best in Europe and will be an enabler for the production of carbon-neutral Ethylene.

Lastly, our strategy is to leverage the advanced manufacturing and automation technologies to build a cost-competitive manufacturing and assembly base in the UK and catalyse the export of products and highly skilled services to Europe.

As a developed nation the UK will face scrutiny internationally as to how it manages its contribution to reducing global emissions. The technology will proactively demonstrate the UK's leadership and commitment towards Net Zero goals.
