Grant Description

Osprey is a UK-based smart infrastructure SME with a core project team of Daniel Scott (Technical Lead) and Peter Scott (Product Owner/Operations Director).

The annual direct and indirect costs of landslides and other earthwork failures are significant in terms of safety risks for rail passengers and trains as well as economic implications. Identifying these failures early is critical to rail safety. To this end, Osprey is developing Geo-Alarm, an IoT sensor that is easy and cost-effective to deploy and provides rapid alert to geotechnical activity.

This project directly responds to Network Rail's Challenge Statement: "Detection of asset failure by means other than train drivers" and offers an alternative to existing solutions that is more cost effective, easier to deploy, has lower environmental impact, is less prone to damage, and easier to maintain.
