Grant Description

The PEEL Programme is an innovative initiative that addresses the challenges of self-identity in the digital age, using poetry and photography to empower young minds. It uniquely uncovers hidden photographic talents among participants, offering workshops that delve into technical skills, concept creation, composition, creative direction and light manipulation, enabling expressive self-articulation and artistic development.

Participants engage in guided interviews with each other, creative writing, and immersive photography sessions, exploring their identities and fostering self-confidence, resilience, and empathy. This hands-on approach not only enhances mental well-being, evidenced by improvements on the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale but also reveals and nurtures photographic skills, transforming novices into budding photographers.

The programme culminates in the creation of personal artworks, blending poetry with photographic portraits to narrate individual journeys of self-discovery. These pieces are showcased in exhibitions and online, highlighting the transformative power of creativity.

PEEL's impact extends beyond artistic expression, inspiring participants to pursue creative education and careers, demonstrating the programme's significant role in shaping futures where creativity and mental resilience thrive.
