Grant Description

Gommyr has pioneered a transformative approach to renewable energy access through the development of integrated, productive-use focused microgrid business models and technologies, supported by the Innovate UK Energy Catalyst program. Our innovation lies in combining on-site renewable solar-battery systems with large productive loads (agri-processing, water, and cold chain) to foster economic growth in underserved communities while enhancing the microgrid project economics.

Our microgrids deliver reliable energy and combine critical services such as water treatment, telecommunications, security, and cooling. These services are bundled and offered to companies, small businesses, and entrepreneurs who require dependable energy and infrastructure to thrive.

Our initial pilots in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo have demonstrated the viability and impact of our approach in challenging market environments. We are poised for the next growth phase, aiming to replicate and scale our projects in these countries and expand into Mozambique. Our model not only provides a sustainable energy solution but also serves as a catalyst for green growth in the communities we serve.

The focal point of this project is to leverage external support and expertise to overcome our primary barrier: accessing capital for the implementation of projects. We aim to prepare for and secure financing for a critical portfolio of projects essential for our expansion. We are targeting two financing streams:

1 -- Portfolio financing to enable multiple project deployment (focus on concessional debt and risk capital)

2 -- Sale of environmental attributes (renewable energy certificates, carbon credits, etc) and pre-financing of this cashflow -- this generates cashflows which can cover up to 1/3 of a project equity requirement.

Through this commercialisation support project, we seek to engage experts who can contribute to overcoming the challenges of financing for scaling our integrated green microgrid solutions. This project represents a pivotal step in our mission to grow and replicate to bring significant impacts to clients in our target markets.
