Grant Description

Eslando is a circular fashion tech company on a mission to accelerate textile recycling. Our Artificial Intelligence(AI) powered sorting software leverages Digital Product Passports(DPP) to sort textile waste for recycling with pinpoint accuracy.

By connecting fashion's disconnected end-of-life supply chain with data, we solve the biggest problem in waste-textile sorting for recycling. Our innovation reduces landfill waste by 75%. Enables waste-textile collectors to recover materials efficiently.

This project is a collaborative partnership between Eslando, a Fashion-Tech Company (Lead), Terra Further, Human Centred Design Agency, and Andrew Blackshire, a Human Centred User Experience (UX) Researcher.

Our common objective is to achieve a successful human-centred design research project that leads to a user-friendly and impactful sorting software solution for textile waste collectors.

85% of leading fashion brands (by sales) have net zero targets; By 2030, more than 35 fashion sustainability regulations, including Extended Producer Responsibility and Product Passport requirements, will be implemented; 133 million tons of recycled fibres could be required by 2030 \[Boston Consulting Group, 2023\].

Fashion produces 100 billion clothes every year, and less than 1% are recycled into new clothes;

The fashion industry contributes 3.29 billion tons of carbon annually. \[Quantis, 2018\]. Production of virgin fibres and disposal account for 41% of these emissions. \[McKinsey & Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2017\].

We will reduce carbon emissions by 25 kg per kilogram of waste textiles. We will reduce over 50 million tonnes of carbon emissions and advance UK Net Zero goals, through recycling.

We propose UK materials security by circularising textile resource flows. We will reduce waste exports. We will advance the transition towards a circular economy by providing research and understanding
