Grant Description

**Aim**

Toolkit to Examine Lifelike Language (TELL ) is a validated app which uses a person's speech and AI analysis to capture early markers of neurodegenerative diseases, which helps diagnose dementia and other conditions. TELL's application is currently limited to **research settings.** This project aims to improve the lives of individuals affected by dementia (patients, carers and families) by developing a patient-facing platform called TELL PEOPLE for commercial clinical use.

**Rationale**

Dementia is a significant personal, family and system challenge, with the number of affected individuals expected to rise sharply. In the UK, 982,000 people currently live with dementia, projected to increase to 1.4 million by 2040\. Traditional diagnostic methods can be invasive, stressful, and inaccessible or delayed diagnosis.

This delay deprives patients of crucial time to plan and access support, including new pharma interventions. The TELL tool offers a non-invasive, accessible, and rapid diagnostic option. This project will utilise NI expertise and citizens to co-produce a patient-facing platform called TELLPEOPLE.

This new IP will be for commercial clinics to use NI, with the The Brain Health Clinic, and exported beyond NI . **Impact** **Economic**

The co-production of TELLPEOPLE will generate employment and knowledge creation within the Life and Health Science cluster, with revenue and job creation within the clinical commercialisation of TELLPEOPLE in The Brain Health Clinic.

**Empowerment and Early Intervention**: TELLPEOPLE will enable earlier diagnosis, enabling early intervention and support.

**Reducing the Diagnostic Burden**: Traditional methods often involve multiple visits and invasive tests and procedures disease. TELL PEOPLE speech-based diagnostics offer a patient-friendly, remote alternative, reducing the need for mulitple stressful appointments and ensuring a more patient-centred approach.

**Accessibility and Equity**: TELLPLUS democratises access to diagnostic services, particularly benefiting those in rural or underserved areas globally.

**Enhancing Patient and Family Support**: An early diagnosis enhances support for patients and families, allowing better planning and access to support and treatment. TELLPEOPLE user-friendly interface and quick results enable informed decision-making to support diagnosis.
