Grant Description

Our project focuses on developing an innovative aeroponic water delivery system designed to enhance a modular vertical grow system for use in homes, schools, and universities. This system represents a significant advancement in agri-tech by integrating people-centered design practices to ensure it meets the needs of users with varying levels of ability, including those with physical impairments due to disability or age.

The project brings together a design team and an agri-tech team to explore the user feasibility of this concept. Insights gained from engaging diverse user groups will drive further development work, ensuring the system is inclusive and accessible. Alongside this, a civil data collection operation will be implemented to gather essential information on best practices for home growing.

This includes data on issues encountered, light exposure levels, nutrient dosage, plant health, and watering volumes.

By developing a system that improves domestic agricultural practices, this project aims to contribute significantly to the UK's food security. Encouraging home growing will reduce import levels, promote sustainability, and have positive environmental impacts. The innovative combination of user-centered design and advanced aeroponic technology makes this project a pioneering effort in enhancing self-sufficiency and resilience in food production.
