Recent years have seen an increase in cyberattacks targeting windfarms. These attacks aim to disrupt turbine operations and reduce efficiency. As windfarms are located in remote areas with open infrastructure, they are particularly vulnerable to attacks. Moreover, windfarm companies primarily focus on increasing energy generation efficiency, neglecting cybersecurity.

While some cybersecurity solutions exist for windfarms, they are inadequate for handling new and emerging threats and lack robustness. Most current solutions are based on general Operational Technology (OT) security and are not tailored to the specific needs of the windfarm industry. Windfarms require a dedicated cybersecurity platform due to their unique infrastructure.

To address this issue, this project aims to develop an AI-based platform for detecting cyberattacks in windfarms and identifying intrusions or any malicious alterations in messages exchanged between the control center and turbines that impact turbine operations. Our approach involves using distributed AI for windfarm cybersecurity, prioritizing trustworthy and tamper-proof AI models.

The proposed platform will self-improve to address new and emerging threats. This combination of distributed AI, trustworthy and tamper-proof models, and online learning represents a novel and disruptive approach. The proposed platform can be easily integrated into existing turbines and control centers.
