On December 12, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Havana donated essential food items to Artemisa Province, Cuba.
The donation included powdered milk for the José Ramón Martínez Pediatric Hospital in Guanajay, and rice, flour, cooking oil, and other staples for use in local hospitals, schools, and low-income families across the province.
The donation was officially delivered during a handover ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador Ma Hui and provincial leaders.
The Chinese side noted that the donation was intended to alleviate food insecurity and assist vulnerable populations in Artemisa as part of long-standing China-Cuba cooperation.
Cuban local media and provincial officials expressed deep appreciation for the contribution, which forms part of China's broader support to Cuba's "canasta básica" (basic food basket) program amid ongoing supply shortages.
1. While the monetary value of the donation was not publicly disclosed, Chinese MFA statements confirm that this was a non-reimbursable grant in the form of food and livelihood materials (民生物资).
