Grant Description

On November 10, 2023, China delivered a batch of emergency humanitarian food aid that consisted of 2,000 tonnes of cereal to the Government of Chad. The food aid contained wheat and rice provided by China National Cereals, Oils, and Foodstuffs Corporation. A handover ceremony was held N'Djamena and was attended by Chinese Ambassador Wang Xining.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Chad, the aid was meant to facilitate Chad's recovery from recent climate disasters, including a series of droughts and floods that, together with an increasing number of refugees, led to a food crisis in the country.

China had previously sent similar packages to ONASA, including 5,000 tonnes of food aid in 2014, 5,000 tonnes in 2017, and 6,000 tonnes in 2019.
