This $573,039 grant funds a feasibility study to determine the technical, economic, and financial viability of a 20 MW waste-to-energy plant near the city of Medellin in the Colombian department of Antiquia. The Instituto para el Desarollo de Antioquia, the Institute for the Development of Antioquia or "IDEA" is the grantee.
IDEA is the autonomous regional development institution in Antioquia and has participated in the development of numerous energy, infrastructure, mining and reforestation projects.
This project addresses one of the most pressing challenges for the Colombian government at the regional and national level: improving forms of sustainable waste management for municipal solid waste.
