Grant Description

The Strengthening Household Ability to Respond to Development Opportunities (SHOUHARDO) II activity will increase the food security of rural households in 11 of the poorest districts.

The activity improves food availability through the promotion and extension of food crops, fisheries, livestock, and poultry; and access to food and markets, and creating alternate incogeneration activities.

The activity improves the health and nutrition of pregnant women and children under the age of two by increasing access to community health and nutrition services, such as growth monitoring, pre-and post-natal care, and food rations.

The activity supports disaster mitigation through the construction of shelters, wave protection walls, earthen embankments and the training of communities on emergency response and contingency planning.

The activity will form groups for gender equality, early childhood care and development, and capacity of formal/informal institutions to improve women's empowerment.
