Purpose and goal:
The purpose of the project is to manufacture and validate cryostats to Cern. These act as junction boxes in the power supply for the Large Hadron Collider. The cryostats were developed in cooperation by Cern, Uppsala Universitet and RFR Solutions and are designed to make a transition to superconductors in a vacuum environment with a temperature of 20K (-250 ° Celsius). The goal is to deliver 8 units in two variants.
Expected results and effects:
The effect of the products to be manufactured is that the upgraded Large Hadron Collider in Cern will generate a larger and better test result by increasing capacity up to five times. The collected amount of data creates new conditions for breakthroughs in basic research in particle physics. Because RFR Solutions can participate in the project with the competence transfer from Cern in both technology and production we will have new opportunities to use this to participate in more project in both the research world and the private business sector.
Approach and implementation:
Deliveries are made under 2022-2023 and are made in full cooperation between Cern, Uppsala Universitet and RFR Solutions. In the start-up, a comprehensive review of technology, production and validation systems takes place to secure the entire production chain. During the project, there will be a transfer of expertise to RFR Solutions, primarily in vacuum and cryostat technology, but also in test and validation systems.
Following the implementation of the project, RFR Solutions will be a competent partner in vacuum technology for the research world.
