The UGU infrastructure is a large database within the field of education.
It is based on a series of longitudinal studies and includes 10 cohorts born between 1948 and 2004 (ca 10 000 students in each). Besides questionnaire and test data from students, information is available from parents, teachers, and principals.
Information from a large number of registers concerning, e.g., education, occupation, income and health can also be linked to the UGU data.
The two main aims of UGU are to provide a basis for evaluation of and research on the Swedish educational system and to support longitudinal research in different disciplinary areas. The infrastructure is situated at and co-financed by the University of Gothenburg.
It is managed by a national steering committee and an international advisory board will be appointed during the current period (2022-2023). UGU is staffed by two survey researchers on a part-time basis.
The staff for documentation and user support includes three persons, one of which is financed mainly by UGU.During the period of 2023 to 2028, follow-up data for existing cohorts will be collected, and data for new cohorts born in 2010 and 2016 will be added. Efforts will also be made to further improve data and metadata quality of UGU data, and to extend the UGU user base.
