The construction and real estate sector accounts for almost 20% of Sweden´s climate impact. Major emissions come from materials, energy and transportation.
IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute has for many years been a leading research part and taken responsibility for the industry´s knowledge building and research on buildings´ climate impact, future energy systems and adaptation of transport systems.Regarding materials IVL has e.g. developed “Byggsektorns Miljöberäkningsverktyg” and participates in Malmö´s local roadmap work, LFM30, where IVL develops a method for calculating a climate-positive building.
In other projects, IVL has produced guides for reuse and procurement, as well as instructions on how calculations should be implemented.
Regarding energy, IVL has developed a method and tool for analyzing climate consequences of energy measures in buildings.
Regarding mobility, there is a lot of research on shared use of mobility services, parking areas, workplace parking etc., which has resulted in methods and tools. Thus, there is a lot of knowledge that is of great importance for the industry to become climate neutral.
Through this project we want to spread knowledge widely and that the climate work goes from pilots and good examples to something that the entire industry works with.We will spread knowledge through knowledge-raising seminars and a web-based knowledge bank.
The knowledge bank will be a package of tools, guides, film clips, recorded lectures etc. and seminars will be recorded and published. The project´s main goal is to increase knowledge about buildings´ climate impact and how it can be reduced.
To achieve this, the knowledge bank and seminars are used as tools for knowledge dissemination and network building.Target groups are actors who need understanding of building´s climate impact, such as developers, property owners, building contractors, architects, community planners and consultants.
They all play important roles during a building’s lifecycle.
Above all, we want to reach beyond those who already have this knowledge. For knowledge to be widely disseminated IVL will use channels and collaborations from past and ongoing projects, such as organizations within the industry and partners. We use different types of media to arouse interest and challenge them to take further steps in their climate action.
