This project is trialling a prototype that analyses the use of building spaces through a temporary installation of sensors.
The prototype is coupled with quantitative and qualitative analyses and evaluated as part of a novel architectural service.
This connects what the architect today considers late project stages with early stages to establish a circular approach towards buildings, informing building projects to be carried out in a more resource-efficient fashion. The project stems from an ongoing discussion on suboptimal efficiency in the use of space in public buildings, as well as the need to support such impressions with data.
Space requirements supported by data on real usage can be an important asset in discussions with users and increase transparency in decisions.Value generating activities are identified in discussions between the buildings division at Uppsala university and White arkitekter AB. The installation of sensors is carried out by staff at selected student facilities.
Learnings from this, together with results from the measurements and the architectural analysis are then discussed in the report. There are a number of identified services in the market with similar content but the project is positioned by addressing the value of temporary sensor installations and the practical challenges relating to these.
Target audience are property managers and administrations in municipalities, state and academia – as well as architects with a focus on space planning. The theme Värdekedjor och affärsmodeller and the goal Förändrad organisering av arbete, processer och kompetenser are addressed by investigating how the relationship between property managers and architects can be strengthened and established earlier in the planning process.
The goal of the project is to improve the planning of efficient spaces and avoid unnecessary new construction which aligns with the strategic goals of 33% time reduction, 33% cost reduction & 40% climate impact reduction.
