This project (MiMhi) focuses on improving maternal and newborn health for the most vulnerable mothers and infants in remote and underserved settings in India. We apply recent knowledge on innovative mobile phone solutions.
We address 1) access to care and perceptions of care through empowering pregnant or postnatal women, their partners and households through information and training through mobiles and 2) quality of care through empowering healthcare providers through mentoring, supportive supervision and accurate, up-to-date information through mobile applications.
Our novel approach will arrange advice, mentoring, and supportive supervision in real time for health staff who often work alone.
We will develop an intervention, curating existing training materials and up-to-date clinical guidelines to support care for the lowest socioeconomic strata in the country, which may have low literacy levels.
We will implement, evaluate using state-of-the-art methods and disseminate evidence informed information through mobile technology, tailored for low socio-economic and literacy levels. We will provide essential evidenced-informed information interactively through apps with video, audio and text.
Distance supervision is necessary for these districts with health workers practicing alone especially in the context of Covid-19 and will support attaining Sustainable Development Goals even in times of crisis.
