Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project has developed and manufactured miniaturized LC-shutters for wireless backscattering optical communication. The LC-shutters fulfilled the demands stated in the target specification.

The-LC shutters for back scattering wireless optical communication is working but is limited to communication speeds of 250 b/s, however at very low power consumption. The low power consumption allows for very long battery life even for very small batteries. Expected results and effects:

The miniaturized LC shutters are estimated to be part of LC-Tec product offer within a few years, which would lead to increased job opportunities at the manufacturing facility in Borlänge.

The miniaturized LC shutters is also believed to fit into other applications as well, due to the minimal footprint and low power consumption. Knowhow from the project have successfully been transferred to other LC-Tec products. Approach and implementation:

The project was divided in six individual work packages: WP1 Target specification, WP2 Optical design, WP3 Miniaturizing XY, WP4 Miniaturizing Z, WP 5 Manufacturing prototypes and WP6 Analysis of the product. WP1 was executed together by both project partners. WP 2 to WP5 was party executed in parallel and knowledge was transferred to the final product manufactured by LC-Tec. WP6 analysis of product properties and performance was executed by project partner Uppsala university.
