Grant Description

This proposed line of research leverages our research group’s previous grant within Forte’s national programme on applied welfare research to evaluate a structured program (TRANSITION) in delivering tailored housing assistance to young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD.

The TRANSITION program encourages the young adults to set personally meaningful goals in key life domains in partnership with their housing assistants. TRANSITION combines both group sessions and individual mentoring.

In response to the pandemic, we are currently in the process of replacing the group-based content with interactive online lectures.

This necessary change brings to the forefront important questions about the preparedness of housing assistance for telehealth interventions.

Within the TRANSITION project, we have conducted in-depth interviews in 17 Swedish regions, focusing on the provision of housing assistance and how service delivery has been impacted by the pandemic.

Some municipalities have recently started delivering support remotely, with housing assistants expressing both positive experiences and concerns.

Given the persistent nature of the pandemic, there is an urgent need to systematically investigate approaches to remote delivery of support.

The proposed line of research aims to develop and undertake preliminary evaluation of the feasibility of such a model of service delivery.

The model will be developed through a series of workshops with young service users and their housing assistants across five municipalities.

The end product will be a step by step guide for housing assistants and service users to collaboratively explore possibilities for remote support, including a map of service needs of young service users with Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD (based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health).

The feasibility of the model will be evaluated across the same municipalities, based on in-depth interviews and quantitative measures.
