The overall aim is to facilitate life-long participation in health-promoting levels of physical activity after musculoskeletal injury.
It is a continuation of a VR-funded project.Work package (WP) A: ongoing follow-up and analysis of data from the multicentre prospective cohort NACOX study designed to describe the natural course after knee ligament injury. 275 patients, aged 15-40-years, are followed for at least 5-years.
The predefined aims cover: 1) relationships of biological, psychological and social factors to recovery, 2) treatment choices, 3) return to physical activity, 4) new knee problems and injuries, and 5) osteoarthritis development.WP-B: continuing recruitment and data analysis for a pragmatic randomised controlled trial, testing if the Back in the Game eHealth intervention, is effective for facilitating return to physical activity after knee surgery.
The intervention covers psychological skills, psychoeducation and motivational interviewing, and is delivered in addition to usual rehabilitation.WP-C: implementing the eHealth intervention in general clinical practice, and further development for use by people with other injuries. The studies are person centred, reflect a biopsychosocial approach and address important clinical questions.
The NACOX study is a “real-life” cohort study, not altering usual care. Back in the Game is co-developed with end-users, facilitating implementation in usual care. The research team covers expertise in all the included areas.
