Purpose and goal:
The feasibility study will provide a basis for enabling a faster transition to fossil and emission freedom in the construction industry. It focuses on opportunities and concrete measures to replace diesel-powered machine alternatives with electrified equivalents in a relevant example operation. The study includes an analysis of reduced environmental impact through technology change that is linked to economics.
Expected results and effects:
This feasibility study describes possible scenarios and strategies for SMEs to electrify their machinery. The results support machine contractors and customers´ understanding of the measures that need to be taken for cost- and environmentally efficient transitions. Calculations of the overall climate impact and life cycle cost of a case study show that electrification is well placed to significantly reduce the climate impact of working machines and, under the right conditions, be cost-effective.
Approach and implementation:
In a market analysis, data on which electrified machines are on the market are summarized. The market analysis has been supplemented with information on expected future developments and machine offerings, as well as relevant examples from other machine categories. Additionally, the overall climate impact and life cycle costs of a case study has been calculated. The analysis covers the current situation and 4 future scenarios where fossil fuels are gradually replaced by biofuels or electricity.
