Grant Description

This comparative qualitative study aims to explore experiences from changes during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in health service system related to social and emotional wellbeing among Sámi and Australian Aboriginal peoples with disabilities and/or chronic disease, in Sweden and Australia.

The research team have a history of working together on scholarly projects regarding rights of Indigenous people with disability.Studies from both countries indicate that participation of Indigenous people with disability in health service is inadequate.

A study from Sweden indicates that Sámi with disabilities may refrain from health-related service, due to poor cultural safety, such as not being heard or respected.

There is lack of knowledge how that may have changed during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.Current project, placed in Umeå, Sweden, strives for equality in healthrelated service.

Interviews will be undertaken with adult indigenous people with disability and/or chronic disease, to explore experiences from changes in health service systems during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, including language and culture, relating to social and emotional wellbeing. Results will be translated to health service policy, practice, and praxis.

This research is for the benefit of indigenous people with disability and chronic disease, regarding that indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities are specially mentioned in Agenda 2030.

Results can be used striving for goal three, good health and wellbeing in Agenda 2030, especially regarding indigenous people with disability and chronic disease, and contributing to equality in health, stated in goal ten, in Global North and South.

Furthermore, result will be possible for indigenous communities and various welfare actors in development of disability service and support for indigenous people with disability and chronic disease.
