Purpose and goal:
This project aims to scale circular use of industrial lubricants. The more times a lubricant is reused, the fewer oil changes will be required. This contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions.
The goal is achieving global implementation of a new chemical/mechanical oil regeneration technology at SKF´s production units. By validating this technology within SKF, as well as ensuring a well-functioning logistics chain, a circular use of lubricants in the larger industry is achievable. The new technology will consequently be offered to external customers as well.
Expected results and effects:
Ultra-clean oils in SKF´s production of ball bearings provide a higher, more even quality of manufactured parts. Cleaner lubricants reduce friction and wear in each lubricated contact and prevent breakdowns in industrial gearboxes and hydraulic systems. The result is extended service life for both lubricant and lubricated contact. Thus, the earth´s resources are managed in a better way: oil can be reused, and products and machines obtain a higher quality and increased service life.
Approach and implementation:
This project will focus on regeneration of oils for industrial gearboxes. A Mechanical engineering doctoral student at Luleå University of Technology will verify that the oil regeneration technology can provide maintained oil functionality, as well as improve process and product performance. Life cycle analyses will be used to complement the technical verification.
To successfully bring the technology to the market, a clear, regionally anchored go-to-market plan is in place.
