Purpose and goal:
This pre-study main goal is to prove the feasibility of using electrodeposition to create metallic joints at low temperature, for materials which microstructure is sensitive to high temperature. Regarding this goal, the project showed promising results on simple geometries both on structural as well on stainless steel. Sound joints could be produced on a simple T¨-joint geometry that was then mechanically tested and proved to have the expected strength.
Expected results and effects:
The prestudy has proved the feasibility of the technological idea to apply electrodeposition to develop low temperature metallic joints. By the prestudy we proved the capability of producing sound strong joints on simple geometry and to develop good adhesion among deposited metal and passive substrates, like stainless steel. The project also highlighted the most critical aspects that should be further investigated before exploiting the full potential of the project idea.
Approach and implementation:
This short project had 1 management working package and 4 main technical working packages. Bi-weekly "work in progress" meetings were held online to discuss project plan and results, as well coordinate the work among the partners. The results produced in this initial pre-study work form the foundation for a full scale project application for further development of the technology.
