Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The project has demonstrated the potential of using a novel post-processing for machining of internal channels and structures in AM-designs. It has been revealed that the interaction between competences in the design of AM detail, the AM process itself and post processing can solve surface problems inside complicated AM-designs. The results opens up for exploring the possibility of creating new designs and/or the use of other materials that previously was not possible.

Expected results and effects:

The initial tests clearly show that it is possible to significantly increase the surface quality inside channels in AM-details. But it also revealed that there are still a lot of unknown topics to be further investigated in order to achieve an industrial usable holistic approach. Some additional results indicates that the polishing process can be useful as a process for cleaning of remaining metal powder in the channels.

Approach and implementation:

The project has benefited greatly from the fact that the project partners represented different roles in the design and production of AM details. The exchange in the project has partly increased the understanding of requirements, AM production and post-processing of products, but also generated new issues and topics to be further investigated.
