G22 - Shaping hopeful futures in times of uncertainties: the challenges and possibilities of gender studies is the fifth national conference for gender research in Sweden. The current pandemic has underscored a number of social inequalities, and the need to address the gender perspective across society is urgent.
In this regard gender research is central and can have immediate impact on everyday quality of life.Hence, inter- and transdisciplinary and intersectional approaches dominate G22.Temporality as a topic in critical research is also accentuated, as the temporal regimes produced by modernity are connected to hierarchies related to categories of race, sexuality, and gender.
The way in which history is rendered is intertwined with aspects of power and identity. The dynamic between uncertain times, hopeful futures, and contested histories is the central point of engagement in G22.Topics include:Experiences from the pandemicHealth, medicine, healthcareClimate, ecology, posthumanism and the non-humanTechnology, digitality, social/mediaEconomy, market, organizational lifeEducationRace, racism, and anti-racismGender equality and gender mainstreamingThe relationship between gender studies and gender research in other disciplinesActivism and social engagement in contemporary and historical perspectivesPostcolonial and transnational feminismsTrans*, non-binary, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, intersex, and hetero livesFemininities, MasculinitiesG22 is organized by the Centre for Gender Studies at Karlstad University, and takes place on campus 26th-28th October 2022.Swedish and English are the official languages. As an environmental step, information and updates around G22 are available in an app, as are abstracts.G22 is primarily aimed at researchers and research students who are active in, or in relation to, gender research mainly in Sweden.
