The Center for Applied Ethics at Linköping University is planning a workshop with the overall aim of strengthening the research area of applied ethics by gathering researchers in different branches of the area.
The starting point is that researchers in applied ethics focus on relatively diversed areas of application in their research.
In Sweden, for example, there is a tradition of medical ethics, business ethics, family ethics and ethical aspects of the legal system.
Within each branch of applied ethics, there is a good connection with the field that you as an ethicist are interested in. However, there has been a lack of a platform for discussions between the various areas of application. The workshop described in this application forms a basis for such a platform.
The intention is to eventually create an annual forum where researchers are given the opportunity for an in-depth discussion of projects that are relevant to them.
Invited researchers are asked to present a research project that is relevant to them. The current workshop is planned to take place on 20–21 January 2022 (lunch to lunch) and brings together researchers in applied ethics with a national focus but with an international element from Oxford University.
From a national perspective, there is a good representation of participants from Swedish universities: Karolinska Institutet, University of Gothenburg, Stockholm University, Uppsala University, Linköping University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Lund University. All speakers in the tentative schedule have confirmed their participation during the current days.
The target group for the workshop is the invited speakers themselves, master´s students from the master´s program in applied ethics at the department https://liu.se/en/education/program/f7met , as well as researchers at LiU with an interest in applied ethics.
