Purpose and goal:
The project contributes to the industry´s innovative capacity through training of people who can implement process-oriented research in an industrial transformation perspective. In this project, we will study the washing process as a countercurrent process, so there is an alkali / ion strength profile along the washing process that affects it. We will focus on mass transport of larger organic molecules out of the fiber wall at different pH and temperatures.
And focus on how the fiber quality is affected by mechanical forces that are applied during washing. Expected results and effects:
The overall aim of this project is to improve the efficiency of pulp washing so that less water / condensate is used (which reduces the dilution of black liquor) but the purity and quality of the pulp produced is not adversely affected. Approach and implementation:
We will have 3 parts in the project, a sub-project for industrial measurements. The second sub-project will focus on mass transport of larger organic molecules out of the fiber wall at different pH and temperatures for three different pulp qualities (high yield, bleached chemical pulp, textile pulp). The third subproject will focus on how the fiber quality is affected by mechanical forces that are applied during washing at different pH and temperature, also here different pulp qualities will be investigated.
