Grant Description
Purpose and goal:
Evolar AB has developed the photovoltaic (PV) technology PV Power Booster. With the PV Power Booster, it is possible for manufacturers to produce perovskite tandem modules.
A joint initiative brought together an Indian Solar panel manufacturer, Evolar AB as well as RISE to proof the readiness of the Perovskite 4T Tandem Module technology.
The project was set out to deliver 4T-tandem prototypes with a demonstrated cost of 24% on module level. Further goals included business analysis for the Indian market.
Expected results and effects:
In May 2023, Evolar was acquired by First Solar. With the acquisition, the new owners intend to terminate the project as their business model does not align with this project.
Following results were achieved by the project based on the development work that was conducted by this project:
A design concept for a 4T Perovskite/Silicon tandem module
Bill of Material
Device stack design
Pilot Line design
Approach and implementation:
The project was divided in four work packages:
1. Project Management and dissemination
2. Tandem module development
3. Manufacturing of prototypes and demonstration
4. Feasibility and localization for India
As the project started (Q2 2022), the project group set out to develop as large prototypes as possible with the equipment that was available. Fur this purpose the project had access to two different pieces of equipment for depositing perovskite.
One for smaller scale development (125x125mm2) and one large scale tool which can handle substates, ranging from 5x5 cm to 1190x600 cm.
