An Alliance for Sustainable E-commerce: Joining forces to Accelerate Innovation

Purpose and goal:

A number of actors from different parts of Swedish trade are engaging in an effort to transform the e-commerce of the future. Through research and innovation, to jointly achieve a resource-efficient, competitive e-commerce without negative effects on climate and health. The goal of the initiative is to create an integrated collaboration arena and competence center for sustainable e-commerce logistics, where CLOSER and ReLog enter into a strategic collaboration to link competencies and jointly run research and innovation projects together with partners within the initiative.

Expected results and effects: 1 Established a national Swedish node for sustainable e-commerce deliveries that facilitates collaboration.

2 Committed actors to the work within the initiative and made it possible for all who want to be involved being able to be so.

3 Initiated a system change of e-commerce delivery for increased sustainability by increasing knowledge of a variety of actors regarding challenges, opportunities, solutions and change needs. 4 Contributed to new business models and made necessary rule changes visible 5 Put Sweden in the forefront and worked for spreading knowledge on the subject.

Approach and implementation:

Starting off in August 2021, with Vinnova funding for 3-years the project has a budget of a total of 9 MSEK. 6 MSEK of these dedicated for collaborative projects with the objective of also applying for external funding for large-scale innovation projects. The initiative will bring together stakeholders, public and private, to, together with leading academic environments, increase the exchange of knowledge and experience about how society can achieve increased efficiency in the delivery of e-commerce goods and services. This through projectinitiation, operation and scaling up.
