Purpose and goal:
The idea of the project is to control heat treatment processes for steel in a carbon-rich atmosphere, to enable faster and more resource-efficient processes and to predict the results. Through data analysis, digital twin, dynamic control of CO content and feedback to the process, an optimized gas consumption is obtained and that rejections and unnecessarily long furnace times, and CO2 footprint, are kept to a minimum.
Goal: 40% lower CO2 footprint / millimeter hardening depth and higher process quality and thus reduced tolerances and finishing of hardened components. Expected results and effects:
The expected results is to demonstrate the time and resource savings that can be achieved by dynamically controlling the gas atmosphere, as well as demonstrating a higher quality of the product. The expected effect of the project is that some of the participating companies invest in equipment for dynamic control and begin to apply this in production.
Approach and implementation: The project is divided into five work packages WP1. Method development, calculations of gas atmospheres WP2. Dynamic control of case hardening WP3 Neutral hardening WP4 Evaluation and optimization for resource efficiency WP5: Project management
