One of the key objectives of the Swedish national climate adaptation strategy is to improve municipalities’ preparedness for climate change to mitigate or adapt the climate-related risks to the built environment and on how such risks can be reduced or eliminated.
This project is highly relevant in this regard as it aims to analyze the preparedness of the existing detached houses for climate change and develop a strategy for the detached housing sector to improve their resilience to climate change.
The project is transdisciplinary and will evaluate the sectoral preparedness firstly by analyzing the Swedish homeowners’ perception and readiness towards climate change; followed by mapping the climate change risks and damages in the residential sector across Sweden and explores the adaptation measures of buildings in climate risk zones.
The study will further analyze the market implication of climate change and renovation measures addressing climate mitigation and adaptation in terms of the property price.
The study will also analyze the perception and readiness of supply-side actors (Real estate companies, Bankers, Insurance companies, and SMEs working on building renovation) towards climate change and finally draft a collective strategy for the detached house sector to combat climate change. The project will be carried out in close collaboration of academic partners and other aforementioned societal partners.
