Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of the R&D project is to test and develop the competition as a tool for innovation and design of homes with smart climate solutions. The concrete purpose is to plan and carry out two land allocation competitions with climate-adapted housing. The competitions are carried out in collaboration with Norrköping municipality which provides two competition plots.

The competitions are conducted as experimental laboratories to meet climate challenges with the help of research support. Norrköping municipality intends to create a future-oriented housing construction. Expected results and effects:

The competitions in the project will produce proposals that reduce the climate impact in architecture, construction and community planning. They are part of a long-term roadmap towards a climate-neutral society. The land allocation competitions in Norrköping enable the municipality to contribute to the roadmap with innovations and climate adaptation.

The competitions build knowledge through local climate initiatives on global challenges and become publically aviable good examples. Facilitating dissemination of knowledge in the construction sector. Approach and implementation:

The R&D project includes two strategies for knowledge production. First theories, methods and concepts with a focus on housing, climate adaptation and innovation. Here the purpose is to understand the competition as a professional experimental laboratory for innovation.

Secondly, a practical application for developing the competition as a tool. The competition task responds to the need for climate neutrality. Two competitions are conducted with multidisciplinary design teams developing climate-adapted solutions. Winning proposals can be used as demonstration projects.
