Purpose and goal:
The main goal of this project and its key innovations in digitalization is to enable industry to handle increased complexity and a large design space already at the concept phase. This will allow for early agile design decisions. The necessary enabling technology has been identified as a seamless system design flow from conceptual model to final implementation.
It is key to address that concurrent development overall takes the right decisions during the whole design process, covering several levels of abstraction, and to avoid discontinuities. Expected results and effects:
The project will develop new knowledge within model- and simulation-based system design, enabling a shift of focus from today’s often seen late low-level simulation to early-stage analysis and verification. It will give valuable insights on the feasibility of a seamless design methodology that covers all the steps from the concept phase down to the final implementation and uses design space exploration and synthesis as the key ingredients on all abstraction levels.
This includes new understanding of how to handle uncertainties and lack of full information at the early stages. Approach and implementation:
The project builds on a sound formal foundation and uses modelling, simulation, design space exploration and synthesis at all levels of abstraction and stages of development, from concept phase down to final implementation. Furthermore, it builds on results from the Vinnova projects CORRECT and TRANSFORM, and the ITEA3 project PANORAMA, now extended to address the large complexity in the early concept phase and the benefits of a seamless design flow supported by design space exploration and synthesis at all design stages. The open source ForSyDe tool suite will be used and extended.
