Purpose and goal:
DiPP-R´s city logistics service is developed to handle large volumes with fewer vehicles and thus suitable for cost-effective co-distribution of e-commerce goods from city limits into the city. The service is offered to carriers and the project aims to evaluate different business models and physical interfaces to the carriers´ existing activities.
The final report shows examples of business models that benefit multiple stakeholders with opportunities and challenges that need to be explored more deeply. Expected results and effects:
The project has found that there are many advantages to consolidated deliveries and to successfully implement this type of service the business model must be inclusive, i.e. that it is perceived as a seamless end-to-end delivery service and that profit sharing funds from e.g. a joint venture can be used as an incentive.
In the business model, balancing cities´ demands for sustainable living conditions, transporters´ demands for cost efficiency and end customers´ demands for accessibility and flexibility is an absolute necessity for a sustainable collective loading initiative. Approach and implementation: The approach has been to analyze secondary data and collect primary data in the form of interviews and surveys.
The project has found a number of reports and initiatives that have been analyzed and interviews have been conducted with, among others: Stadsleveransen Smoovit SAMCITY AKKAFRAKT Jönköpings kommun Lunds stad Johanneberg Science Park
An end-customer survey aimed at identifying end-customers´ possible resistance to the introduction of consolidated deliveries using a DiPP-R last-mile delivery system was conducted.
