The project goal is to build a national coordination framework for marine research data.
Networks, institutes, including private companies, in Sweden who collect and manage marine research data will be identified and necessary collaborations initiated towards a national data network.
A pilot-project will be conducted in which the blue-innovative solution ERDDAP will be installed at the Swedish National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) managed by SMHI, and configured to serve marine research data from SMHI and SND-network partners servers and repositories.
From ERDDAP, the Swedish marine data will become part of the global marine data commons, findable via other ERDDAP servers and EU/global data aggregators, and available for ingestion into visualization, data-aggregation and data-analysis services.
The project will strengthen the Swedish national data contribution to global data initiatives and through this to the the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (short “Decade”) 2021-2030 actions to spread and increase the value of marine data.
The project will prepare the foundations for a national marine research data infrastructure, through which institutes and agencies can share data and metadata and ensure it follows the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) principles. FAIR is recognized as an international guideline to increase data reuse, data preservation, data integration.
