Companies consume 70% of the water in Sweden and consume more water than their counterparts in southern Europe.
This resource inefficiency must end, since limited water supply is starting to be an issue at many locations around Sweden while unnecessary water consumption in industries also leads unnecessary resources being deployed to pump and purify the excess water, burdening both water sources and recipients. The preparatory project addresses the challenge of reducing water consumption in Swedish companies.
The project aims at creating incentives for companies to save water and develop support structures for companies to implement water-saving measures and create long-term synergy effects between the actors.
Interviews will be used as a central tool for mapping the industrial conditions, needs as well as any obstacles for implementing water-saving measures while identifying which actors that are important to involve in the process. The challenge is met through the following activities within the implementation project: 1) Demonstration of water saving at selected companies to verify systematic method for water mapping and to develop a computational model which includes indirect savings and added value with water saving. 2) Create local collaboration and system-integrated solutions for water saving. 3) Advisory services on water saving measures for industries. 4) Regional business network to train and exchange experiences.
