Grant Description

Scharc Group has approximately 20-years of experience in the construction industry with a broad project portfolio.

The drive to develop tools and processes and implement digital twin and IoT technologies stems from the goal of designing better and smarter buildings through better experience feedback and learning from each other outside of projects as well.Digital twins can help in the design and construction as well as in the more efficient operation of buildings and cities, thus reducing their environmental impact.

SmartHelmet plays a strategic role in the use of the digital twin and its implementation leads to increased operational efficiency, provides data for faster risk assessment, real-time monitoring and better team collaboration.SmartHelmet combines the traditional safety structure of a hard hat with IoT technology and adds real-time data to the digital twin, supporting and promoting healthier and safer construction sites and contributing to more efficient processes.

It connects the construction site to the digital twin and enhances workplace safety with emergency alerts and detection of falls and impacts, improves construction processes by collecting data on personnel and the environment, such as temperature, dust and noise levels, and contributes to the digital twin by visualising the collected data in the BIM model in the BuildingCloud web application.During the first quarter of 2021, Scharc and NCC successfully tested SmartHelmet and the BuildingCloud web application within SBE´s "Connected Construction Site" at Sigfridsborg School in Nacka.

The next steps and goals of the project are to further develop the hardware to improve the points mentioned in the feedback: to make the device smaller and lighter in weight and develop a universal mount, making it easier to carry and more comfortable for the wearer, and to improve the internet connectivity of the device, which was originally developed to work with wifi, to now work with 5G IoT technology.
