Early in 2005, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute performed a screening study on per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Sweden.
Since then, several studies on PFAS has been carried out by IVL, for instance, PFAS emissions from incineration plants (2020), PFAS removal from landfill leachate (2020) and MistraTerraClean (2020).
Moreover, IVL has joint BLP (Baltic Sea Leadership) PFAS program, where experts in PFAS removal technology and personal from municipalities (wastewater treatment plant, landfill, national defend department etc.) had discussions on how to remove PFAS from the polluted sites in a feasible way.
However, earlier projects have shown that the industry, personal from municipalities and public has a low level of information and knowledge about PFAS and PFAS removal technology.
To be able to use less PFAS and remove the current PFAS pollution there is a great need for knowledge enhancement and exchange cross sectors.
Through this project, IVL aims to disseminate knowledge widely through digital educational materials, seminars, webinar, workshop, study visits, interview videos, website, media and newsletter.
Target groups are included in this project: stakeholders affected by future restrictions and social pressure for action on PFAS contaminated water and soil, and decision-makers who do not have deep knowledge of PFAS.
IVL will use different communication channels and collaborations from BLP PFAS project for knowledge being widely disseminated.
