Art and Science.
Cultural Transfer in the Age of Liberty is a project that gathers one senior scholar and national and international experts within academia and beyond, to investigate the complex interplay between Art and Natural Sciences. Based on interdisciplinary collaboration, the synergies of the project are multiple.
It investigates the impact of artistic practicioners´ mobility as a form of cultural transfer at a specific historic moment, notably the transfer of artist materials, techniques, professional practices and academic discourse in between the fields of art and science.
By analysing this highly complex system of migrating practices within these fields, the project reveals the historical roots and subsequent impact of these forms of cultural transfer.
The project develops a groundbreaking interdisciplinary research approach and thus provides innovative research methods that will enable a deeper understanding of the materiality of art works, artistic practices and theories of art and their interactions with scientific practices.
The project provides the scholarly context to the International Master Program in Technical Art History and the Art Museum at Stockholm University headed by the project coordinator since 2017, which also serves as a key tool for dissemination of the project´s results.
