Support to Children placed in foster care

Purpose and goal:

The aim and objectives of the project were to develop and offer support measures for the target group of teenagers who are placed in foster care and HVB as they are a particularly vulnerable target group. We wanted to be able to deepen our collaboration and explore the experiences of teenagers, foster care and social workers regarding the need for support measures for teenagers placed in foster care.

We have fulfilled the objectives by providing direct support to 57 teenagers and creating a collaboration model with the city of Gothenburg. Expected results and effects:

Within the project period, our expected results are that we will offer support to 50 teenagers, create a long-term collaboration with the city of Gothenburg and spread insights and inspiration to other actors, which we have carried out. In the longer term, we want to help ensure that more municipalities have developed needs-based support aimed at children placed in foster care, which we have contributed to through participation in the official report of the Swedish Government, children in social care and through lectures, seminars and meetings that we have arranged.

Approach and implementation:

We have been four staff members from Maskrosbarn and one person from the city of Gothenburg in the project team, which has facilitated the implementation. The close collaboration with the city of Gothenburg, both through our contact person who is process manager within the city and the operational steering group for mental health which was our counterpart, has been necessary to be able to quickly implement the support measures city-wide.

Despite this, we have put a lot of effort into the implementation process and learned lessons for future collaboration.
