The Climate crisis theme at the 2022 Gothenburg Book Fair aims to engage and mobilize the broad public by creating conditions for conversation and dialogue with climate research as the starting point and allowing it to meet literature.
As the Nordic region´s largest cultural event, the Book Fair is a platform that engages hundreds of thousands of people.
With a major climate theme, we will take responsibility for the coming climate transition by increasing knowledge of the enormous challenge facing the world - especially in the cultural and educational sector.
The Climate crisis theme consists of five parts: 1) Communication; 2) A 300 sqm concept exhibition area; 3) Approx. 20 program slots in the Book Fair´s seminar program; 4) A national communication campaign; and 5) A roundtable discussion with Swedish publishing directors.
The Book Fair has entered into partnerships with two strong partners who contribute with competence, network and reach: The independent think tank Global Challenge (Global Utmaning) and Stockholm Resilience Center, a world-leading center for interdisciplinary sustainability research.
An important focus for the theme will be to communicate the results within the framework of the research program FAIRTRANS, where both GU and SRC are operative. A central idea with the climate crisis theme is to connect literature and culture with climate research. The theme of the book fair will therefore involve several other actors, including Swedish publishers.
