Re-design creating both ecological, financial and social sustainability

Purpose and goal:

To develop a business model through collaboration that creates ecological, economic and social sustainability The goal of the project is to create a scalable model of the flow from collection, sorting distribution of materials, construction of the sewing studio and sale to the customer. The aim is to re-design children´s jeans that are torn and cannot be sold second-hand.

The sewing is carried out by a company started to create work and job training for foreign-born women far from the labor market. The majority of the goals are met and the business model is implemented and scalable. Expected results and effects:

We have not reached the goal of going from SEK 125 to 1250 kg of recycled textiles per year yet, but currently land at 850 kg/year. One of the challenges is that the trousers must be in good general condition so that they can be sold after the redesign like new condition. Yalla Mellerud has become a "brand" locally and regionally for foreign-born women´s opportunity to gain employment and achieve self-sufficiency.

During the project, Yalla has had many neighboring municipalities on study visits. The IT service has not been possible to implement Approach and implementation:

We have worked process-oriented with digital meetings every month. On four occasions we have had physical workshops. Eftersom Maria at Nimble Patch lives in Malmö, we tried to set aside 2 days to get as much out as possible when she traveled to us in Mellerud and Vargön.

When we wrote the project, we did it together for many hours, which has been a strength during the implementation because we got to know each other and have been able to have an open dialogue to be able to develop and adapt the project in the meantime. The implementation has been linked to the activity plan.
